What is Pilates?

Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat or a variety of equipment. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels, and performs.

Pilates is a safe, sensible exercise system that teaches body awareness, good posture, and graceful movement. It can help alleviate pain and also improves agility, flexibility, and strength. It is appropriate for women and men of all ages and any and all fitness (or no fitness) levels.

Sleek, toned muscles develop without excess bulk while thighs become more slender and the abdominals flatten. Balance and flexibility improve as your whole body is working through careful, controlled movements incorporating breathing and core engagement.

If you have a specific condition or injury, it is best to begin with a private session so that your instructor can become familiar with your particular condition or concerns and provide any appropriate modifications.

What is a Barre class?

Barre is a fun 50 min toning and shaping workout that will change your body!

Barre workouts are set to upbeat music, use a ballet barre in the workout, and participants perform small isometric movements to lift the butt, tone the abs, arms, and thighs. This class will burn fat and sculpt long, lean muscles. Barre exercises are designed to be non-impact and forgiving to the joints. No dance experience is required. Celebrities and devotees have been raving about Barre workouts and their results for years–you can expect to feel stronger, more flexible, and see results in those so-called problem areas–all set to fun, upbeat music.

What is Reformer Pilates?

There is probably no piece of Pilates equipment more famous than the Pilates reformer. And for good reason. The reformer makes a dramatic impression when you first see one, and an even more dramatic change in the body when you use it. Reformers are lined up in Pilates studios all over the world. Reformer classes are usually one of the main choices at Pilates studios.  One of the best things about the reformer is its versatility. Exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways and all kinds of variations thereof. In other words, the reformer can train many parts and dynamics of the body in so many different ways with just one relatively sleek piece of equipment.
